Uday Dessai: Whole genome sequencing (WGS) to predict AMR in food-borne bacteria
With whole genome sequencing (WGS) researchers can observe how DNA or genes in bacterial populations can be shared via plasmids which may lead to ‘acquired resistance.’ WGS may predict AMR more efficiently, using a singular WGS workflow. Initial studies indicate a high correlation between the presence of AMR genes and phenotypic data.
