Using priorities between human and livestock bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to identify data gaps in livestock AMR surveillance
Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a global threat to humans and livestock, but there is limited consensus on data-informed intervention areas. A study analyzed livestock AMR data from open-source surveillance reports and point prevalence surveys for six pathogens and eleven antimicrobial classes. Results showed that less than 10% of livestock AMR data was reported for Staphylococcus aureus, while data for Escherichia coli specific to cattle, chickens, and pigs was well collected. The study suggests that countries should strengthen livestock AMR data collection, reporting, and intervention setting, similar to Escherichia coli.
