Unveiling Encrypted Antimicrobial Peptides from Cephalopods’ Salivary Glands: A Proteolysis-Driven Virtual Approach
This study reveals a potential reservoir of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in marine cephalopod salivary glands. A composite protein database of 5,412,039 canonical and noncanonical proteins from 14 cephalopod species was digested, yielding over 9 million nonredundant peptides. These peptides were screened using various tools, focusing on antimicrobial activity and structural uniqueness. Five datasets were released, providing valuable resources for peptide drug developers.
