The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the antimicrobial stewardship workforce in Scottish acute care hospitals—a qualitative study

The COVID-19 pandemic has had both positive and negative effects on the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) workforce in Scottish acute care hospitals. A study conducted through semi-structured online interviews revealed both negative effects, such as staff redeployment and shortages, and positive effects, such as improved working relationships and technology use. The findings suggest that adaptation to technology and investment in the workforce are recommended to improve the resilience of AMS services in future crises.
