The antimicrobial resistance profile in poultry of Central and Southern India is evolving with distinct features
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is rapidly emerging in poultry, particularly in India and China. A study collected chicken feces from poultry farms in Kerala and Telangana, revealing high prevalence of gram-negative and anaerobic species and high priority pathogens like E.coli, Clostridium perfringens, Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcous faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacteriodes fragiles. Southern India had the highest abundance of AMR genes, similar to EU data but with lesser severity.
