Rocky start for the UN High level meeting on AMR
ReAct’s Otto Cars and Helle Aagaard discussed the prospects for the upcoming United Nations High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Policy Brief in New York. They noted that the world is not the same as it was in 2016, and the political consensus on addressing antibiotic resistance is not mirrored by a similar consensus. The North-South divide on health equity is also a concern, with many issues remaining unresolved. The “One Health approach” is fraught with controversy, and achieving sustainable access to effective antibiotics for all will require a bridge-building narrative and leadership from high-income countries. The UNGA High-Level Meeting on AMR has the power to change our common future for the better.
