Monitoring progress on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) response in the World Health Organization African region: Insights from the Tracking AMR Country Self-Assessment Survey (TrACSS) 2021 results for the human health sector
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant global health issue, with the WHO African Region Member States committed to developing and implementing multisectoral national action plans (NAPs) in line with the Global Action Plan on AMR. The 2021 Tracking AMR Country Self-Assessment Survey revealed that 35 countries have developed NAPs, 37% have functional multisector working groups, and 55% are collating data on AMR surveillance. However, gaps still exist across key indicators, highlighting the need for effective AMR response through established governance mechanisms and clear monitoring and reporting.
