Modelling the Global Economic Impact of Antimicrobial Resistance in Humans

  01 February 2025

This research explores the economic impacts of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) on human health and economy. It considers five scenarios and simulates the combined effects on population, healthcare costs, labor, hospitality, and tourism. Results show global GDP could change from $269 billion with better treatment to nearly $990 billion with a combined intervention approach. Lower-income countries may see larger gains, while upper-middle and high-income countries may lose more.
