Longitudinal genomic analysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae transmission dynamics in Australia

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the transmission of N. gonorrhoeae, a sexually transmissible infection, highlighting the need for improved diagnostic, treatment, and prevention strategies. A study analyzing 5881 N. gonorrhoeae genomes from Australia found persistence of large genomic clusters over several years, with some clusters associated with heterosexual transmission.
