Interspecies transmission of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria between wild birds and mammals in urban environment
The study explores the transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria among wild animal species, using rook Corvus frugilegus and striped field mouse Apodemus agrarius as a research model. The study found that even intensive exposure to pathogens does not necessarily lead to effective transmission of antibiotic-resistant E. coli strains between birds and mammals. The study suggests that further research should focus on investigating actual transmission of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in ecological systems, including urban environments, to develop more accurate models for epidemiological threats and make well-balanced decisions regarding the coexistence of humans and urban wildlife.
