Intersections between climate change and antimicrobial resistance: a systematic scoping review

  17 December 2024

This systematic scoping review aims to understand the growing evidence base linking antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and climate change, identifying knowledge gaps and areas for further research. A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature found that 39% of articles discussed harmful synergies between climate change and AMR, while 28% contained general references and 19% referred to climate change influencing AMR. The remaining literature focused on shared drivers, trade-offs, and pathways through which AMR can negatively influence climate change. However, research in this area is still nascent and converges, with few documents focusing on the equal intersection of both topics.
