High frequency of multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli from cattle in the Cerrado and Pantanal biomes of Brazil

The study analyzed E. coli isolates in calves in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, revealing 67.62% of them exhibited multidrug resistance. The most common pathotype was Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (28%), followed by toxigenic Escherichia coli (11%), enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (8%), and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC). The study highlights the potential impact on animal and human health.
