High carriage and possible hidden spread of multidrug-resistant Salmonella among asymptomatic workers in Yulin, China

A study in Yulin, China, found that food workers carry Salmonella more frequently than non-food workers. Healthy carriers serve as natural reservoirs for Salmonella, with higher carriage rates. Food workers also have higher levels of antimicrobial resistance. Factors like meteorological, social, and hygiene influence carriage rates. The study highlights the risk food workers pose in the persistence and dissemination of Salmonella as vectors/fomites.
