From Data to Decisions: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Combating Antimicrobial Resistance – a Comprehensive Review

  22 August 2024

Drug-resistant bacteria pose a significant challenge to modern medicine, prompting the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AI/ML can identify pathogens, understand resistance patterns, predict treatment outcomes, and discover new antibiotic agents. These algorithms can analyze large datasets, predict AMR trends, and develop targeted treatment strategies. AI/ML can also optimize drug administration and develop alternatives to traditional antibiotics. While clinical adoption of AI/ML is still in its infancy, advancements in data quality and algorithm development suggest widespread adoption.
