Emergence and global spread of a dominant multidrug-resistant clade within Acinetobacter baumannii
Acinetobacter baumannii, a leading cause of nosocomial infections, is a multi-drug resistant bacteria due to the global spread of epidemic lineages accumulating antimicrobial resistance genes. A genomic analysis of over 15,000 A. baumannii genomes identified a predominant epidemic super-lineage accounting for 70% of global isolates. The study highlights the need for One Health-oriented research and interventions to address the spread of this MDR pathogen.
