Drivers of antimicrobial resistance within the communities of Nepal from One Health perspective: a scoping review

This scoping review aimed to determine the community’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices around antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Nepal. The review included 47 studies, with 66% focusing on human health, 11% on animal health, and no studies solely on environmental aspects. The results revealed inadequate knowledge and inappropriate practices in both sectors. Four community interventions improved knowledge and practices on the appropriate use of antimicrobials. However, various social and economic factors remained barriers to the appropriate use of antimicrobials. Community engagement and One Health approaches could be key tools for promoting behavioral change.
