Antimicrobial Resistance and Public Health Risks Associated with Staphylococci Isolated from Raw and Processed Meat Products

The study examined Staphylococcus isolates from meat and meat products, revealing high prevalence (75% and 50%) in street kebab and raw buffalo meat. The majority were resistant to β-lactam antibiotics, with the most widespread resistance against nalidixic acid and sulfadiazine. The study also found 36 distinct resistance patterns, with 82% being multidrug resistant. The most common AMR gene detected was mecA. The study suggests strict hygiene monitoring and judicious antibiotic use to protect public health.
