Antimicrobial Resistance and Environmental Health

  23 January 2025

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat that could surpass the casualties of all pandemics. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Meeting on AMR recognized AMR as a significant contributor to the crisis, emphasizing the need for a One Health approach. The environment is an important reservoir and potential source of AMR, and studies have shown that it is an important reservoir and potential source of AMR. This Special Issue presents manuscripts covering various aspects of the environmental dimension of AMR, including the impact of anthropogenic activities on antibiotic presence in the environment and its effects on AMR development and evolution. The authors also discuss genomic approaches to elucidate AMR in environmental bacteria, the role of wastewater as a proxy to understand AMR in communities, bioaerosols as vehicles for the spread of AMR, and a community-centric approach to addressing AMR. Eleven articles by 102 authors from Africa, Europe, America, and Asia were published after rigorous peer review.
