Antibiotic Resistance Trends Among Enterobacteriaceae in Saudi Arabia: A Systematic Review

Antibiotic resistance is a global public health concern, particularly in Enterobacteriaceae, a family of gram-negative bacteria. A systematic review of antibiotic resistance trends in Saudi Arabia between 2003 and 2023 found that 7592 isolates were resistant bacteria. These strains, including Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, cause various clinical conditions. The review highlights the dynamic nature of antibiotic resistance, with new resistant species emerging over the last decade. Continued surveillance, rational antibiotic use, and alternative treatment options are crucial.
