Antimicrobial resistance in bacteria from pig production chain: a systematic review and meta-analyses focused on the Brazilian context

  15 April 2025

A systematic review protocol was developed to assess antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Brazil’s pig production chain. Over 3000 strains were assessed, with a focus on Salmonella and Escherichia coli. High levels of resistance against quinolones, tetracyclines, and colistin were observed. The study provides a comprehensive synthesis of available data on AMR in the pig industry, potentially addressing knowledge gaps and enhancing policies for monitoring, controlling, and managing foodborne AMR.
