Investigating the Antibiotic Resistance Genes and Mobile Genetic Elements in Water Systems impacted with Anthropogenic Pollutants
This study analyzes the impact of anthropogenic pollutants on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in urban wastewater, source water, and drinking water supplies in India. Results show that blaTEM and blaCTXM-32 are the dominant ARGs, with transposase genes and MGEs also prevalent. Pathogenic bacteria like Clostridium, Acinetobacter, and Legionella were detected, highlighting potential health risks. The study also found significant correlations between resistance genes and EDCs, environmental parameters, and the impact of pollutants on AMR. Understanding these factors is crucial for developing effective strategies and sustainable solutions to combat antibiotic resistance.
