Combating Antimicrobial Resistance During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Perceived Risks and Protective Practices

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted antimicrobial resistance (AMR) efforts, causing significant disruptions. Factors contributing to these disruptions include patient and facility-level issues, healthcare workforce challenges, infection prevention and control adherence challenges, and early ASP implementation issues. Experts recommend timely access to AMR data, guidance, and diagnostics during public health emergencies, and effective communication channels to support policies and treatment decisions. Lessons learned from the pandemic can help ensure ongoing, effective antimicrobial stewardship during future emergencies.
