A global investigation into antimicrobial knowledge in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry and veterinary undergraduate students: A scoping review to inform future planetary health multidisciplinary education
This scoping review aims to assess the current antimicrobial knowledge of undergraduate students across medicine, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, and veterinary disciplines. The review found that students are more familiar with antimicrobial resistance (AMR) than AMS, and inappropriate use of antimicrobials is seen as the main driver of AMR. There is a need for more AMS interprofessional education activities in all five disciplines, especially within nursing, veterinary, and dentistry. The review highlights the need for multidisciplinary research in this area, focusing on factors contributing to AMR, such as inappropriate disposal, environmental contamination, monitoring and surveillance, one health, false allergies, and the contribution of each health professional to a team.
