Antibiotic resistance: A key microbial survival mechanism that threatens public health
Antibiotic resistance (AMR) is a global public health threat that challenges the effectiveness of antibiotics in combating bacterial infections. AMR is an ancient survival trait of bacteria, and human use of antibiotics has led to the evolution of new resistance mechanisms and the mobilization of existing ones through bacterial populations in the environment, animals, and humans. Addressing this requires innovation and investment to ensure continued use of antibiotics in the future. Strategies include developing new therapies, artificial intelligence, and discovering new drugs.
