From Protection to Prevention: Redefining Vaccines in the Context of Antimicrobial Resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health threat, affecting treatment effectiveness and increasing medical risks. Vaccines play a crucial role in reducing AMR by reducing infections, reducing antibiotic use, and preventing diseases that would otherwise require antibiotics. Expanding vaccine coverage aligns with global health priorities and supports responsible use of antimicrobials. Equitable funding and policy support are needed for vaccine initiatives, similar to new antibiotics and diagnostic techniques. Further research into vaccines’ economic and health benefits is needed to manage AMR effectively.
