GIANT PHAGE HOLDS PROMISE AS TREATMENT FOR LUNG INFECTIONS, WARWICK RESEARCHERS FIND
Researchers at the University of Warwick have discovered a new bacterial killer that can target common lung infections caused by Burkholderia bacteria. These bacteria, known for evading antibiotics, can cause fatal lung diseases like Cystic Fibrosis. Researchers are exploring the use of bacteriophages (phages), which are naturally occurring viruses that can infect and kill bacteria. Wastewater, particularly from hospitals, is a great source of phages that can target specific bacteria, potentially providing alternative therapeutics for lung infections.
