Unraveling resistance mechanisms in combination therapy: A comprehensive review of recent advances and future directions

Antimicrobial resistance is a global health threat due to misuse and overuse of antimicrobials. Rapid spread requires multisectoral action to develop new treatments. Combination therapy can enhance antibacterial efficacy, but understanding drug interactions is crucial. This review discusses current advances in antibiotic resistance’s evolutionary and genetic dynamics in combination therapies-exposed bacteria and four future research areas.
