Growing resistance to antimicrobials in dairy cows in the US

A study of over 5,100 Salmonella bacteria from dairy cattle samples in northeastern US states over the past 15 years has revealed a significant increase in resistance to certain antimicrobials. The study also found that two serotypes, Dublin and Montevideo, significantly increased over time. Dublin, a serotype that tends to be resistant to multiple antimicrobials, has emerged in New York over the past decade and is almost always multidrug resistant. The trend in antimicrobial resistance is driven by this sharp rise.
