Salmonella Infantis, an emerging human multidrug-resistant pathogen

Salmonella enterica serovar Infantis is a growing public health threat due to its widespread presence and high levels of antimicrobial resistance. A study analyzing 5,284 strains from 74 countries found that 73% of poultry isolates exhibited multidrug resistance, compared to 35% of human isolates. This discrepancy is attributed to the presence of the pESI megaplasmid, which is present in 71% of poultry isolates compared to 32% of human isolates.
