Post-Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic Antimicrobial Resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global issue due to improper use of antibiotics. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated AMR diffusion, with its clinical and therapeutic features changing. AMR incidence has increased globally, with a varied profile based on germ and microorganism. The increased use of antibiotics and preventive measures during the pandemic led to the spread of resistant microorganisms from low-income countries to the rest of the world. However, there is no clear association between COVID-19 and AMR changes in the post-pandemic period. An integrated, personalized, and regulated use of antibiotics and antimicrobials is needed.
