Water & Biotechnologies
Water, in its various aspects, is a topic of growing significance. It is a subject of widespread awareness, novel business models and technology utilization. The purpose of “Water and Biotechnologies” is to outline the specific bridges between water and the application of biotechnology tools and innovations.
“Water and Biotechnologies” is a rolling event which is now becoming a wider platform for discussion, collaboration, and entrepreneurship at the brink of water and biotechnologies. The event is bringing together scientists, business leaders, international experts, and influential think tanks to connect, exchange and generate new ideas for innovation, and business development in the field.
Keynote lecture by AMR Insights Dr Maarten van Dongen on Water and AMR.
Main topics:
ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens the very core of modern medicine and the sustainability of an effective global public health response to the enduring threat from infectious diseases. Whilst water contamination by antibiotics was once a hypothesis, currently it is a reality. The scientific evidence of its negative effects on the aquatic environment and human health are numerous and unquestionable. That’s why it is important to tackle AMR with multi-sectoral coordination and sector-specific responses.
RESIDUAL ANTIBIOTICS IN WATER
Significant attention is being brought to the presence of antibiotic residues in the environment because of their potential adverse effects on ecosystems and human health. Antibiotic residues are likely to lead to the development and spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT AND WATER REUSE
Freshwater represents only 2.5% of the water available on the planet. With the rapid increase in the world population, the acceleration of urbanization and global warming, this resource is becoming scarce. It is now a major environmental, societal, and economic challenge for cities and industry. Reusing wastewater is one of the solutions capable of meeting this challenge.
Dive into the topic, join the event and be part of the discussions of existing challenges and innovative solutions related to water and antibiotic overuse.
About Biotech Atelier:
Biotech Atelier as an annual conference, complemented with satellite events and workshops during the year, aims to unlock the potential for growth and development of the biotechnology ecosystem. Biotech Atelier series focused on specific topics unite and concentrate the interest on a regional level and serve as the main collaboration and networking platform in the field. For the fifth year in a row, Biotech Atelier brings together scientists, business leaders, international experts, and influential think tanks to connect, exchange and generate new ideas for innovation, entrepreneurship, and business development in the field of biotechnology.
