Global antibiotic consumption rates have increased by 46 percent since 2000

Global antibiotics consumption Over the last two decades, rates have increased by 46%, according to the first study that provided long-term estimates of human antibiotic consumption in 204 countries from 2000 to 2018. Lancet Planetary Health By global research on antimicrobial resistance (GRAM) projects on Thursday.

Excessive and improper use of Antibiotics Is an important driver of drug-resistant infections, but there are few data on antibiotic consumption. GRAM, which includes researchers from the University of Oxford, the Mahidor Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), and the Institute for Health Index Evaluation (IHME), has developed statistical modeling techniques and is large in multiple data sources and low- and middle-income countries. Types such as large household surveys, drug sales data, and antibiotic consumption data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC).
